Visual Concepts Lighting (VCL) emerged from Ken's tenure as a Utility Consultant, where he noticed a lack of specialized exterior lighting design services in the consultancy field. In response to this gap, Ken and his son Kenny Jr founded VCL in 2004, leveraging Ken Sr's electrician expertise and Kenny Jr's CAD drafting skills. Their dedication to ongoing learning and client-centric approach propelled VCL to prominence, serving a wide range of clients and solidifying their position as leaders in the industry. Grounded in passion and a pursuit of excellence, VCL continues to innovate, helping clients realize their lighting goals with precision and creativity.
With over 40 years in the electrical field, Ken seamlessly blends construction and engineering, specializing in lighting design for 28 years. His journey from electrician to lineman provides invaluable insight into electrical systems. As the visionary leader at Visual Concepts Lighting, Ken orchestrates projects with finesse, mitigating costly change orders. His practical expertise translates into meticulous design documents, ensuring project success. Ken's career spans 20 years as a journeyman lineman/electrician and 28 years in electrical engineering/lighting design. Outside of work, Ken enjoys pursuing his passion for deep-sea fishing and playing jazz saxophones, enriching his life with diverse experiences.
Kenny Jr, our senior team member, boasts 15 years of expertise in designing and managing diverse projects. His commitment to staying current with sustainable lighting technology is evident in authored ordinances for the Rancho Sante Fe Association and Roripaugh Ranch in Temecula, CA. As our Title-24 expert, he remains at the forefront of the outdoor lighting measures, actively engaging with industry trends through the Illumination Engineering Society of North America. Beyond work, Kenny Jr. enjoys exploring San Diego’s landscapes with his wife and two sons. In his leisure time, he finds pleasure in sports and showcases musical talent through guitar and piano jams.
Lesly has had an extensive career in high-level executive/administrative support. As Vice-President of Visual Concepts Lighting, Inc., she acts as Contract Administrator, reviewing and negotiating contracts to ensure they align with the company's goals and protect its interests. She also has the shared responsibility of assessing and mitigating risks for the company. Lesly also handles various HR functions for the company. Outside of VCL, Lesly is a tap-dancer and enjoys ministry volunteer work, loves hiking, and is an avid reader. Most of all, Lesly enjoys being a wife, mom, and "Granny Lesly" to six grandchildren.
With six years of bookkeeping experience, Alice is a skilled financial manager. With backgrounds in retail and manufacturing, she specializes in cost accounting and inventory management. Currently, at VCL, she ensures precise financial oversight and project cost management. Outside of work, she celebrates her Mexican heritage through culinary creations, music, and family moments.
Kameron has a certificate from USCD Extension’s CAD / BIM design program. From concept to finish construction, he has over 18 years of hands-on working experience. He has a wide range of valuable skill sets anywhere from operating & maintaining fully automated pneumatic machinery to teaching kids & adults how to swim. Personal pursuits of traveling, surfing & art have shaped his detailed creativity & positively provide a solid support system for those around him in all environments.
Ryan Culver with 9 years of industry experience, began his journey as a draftsman and has since risen into project management. With a profound expertise in lighting designs for residential and commercial projects, he stands as the go-to authority on municipal matters, spanning from the city of Los Angeles to the city of San Diego. Beyond his professional endeavors, Ryan finds solace and joy in pursuing the rest of world through traveling. Last and certainly not least, Go Chargers #BoltUp!
Cat, UCLA Theatrical Design grad, weaves stories through lighting. From working in LA to Seattle's entertainment industry, she then managed an immersive storytelling product at Burble Creativity. Back in design, Landscape Lighting beckoned, and now at VCL, she brings nighttime vibrancy to communities. Outside work, she's a devoted mom, wife, dog lover, and a fan of cooking, live events, soccer, GO WAVE!, literature, video games, and the beach.
Cristian, a sustainable architecture graduate, adeptly navigates the construction process, from concept to completion. His expertise extends to crafting stunning 3D renders and specializing in interior lighting design with purpose and beauty. Beyond his professional pursuits, He finds joy in playing golf, experimenting in the kitchen, staying fit, and indulging his passion for cars. His diverse interests fuel his creativity, making him very dynamic in both professional and personal endeavors.
Edna holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and currently works as a draftsperson at VCL. She is passionate about creating innovative designs that enhance functionality and aesthetics. Outside of work, Edna enjoys running in nature, staying active, and spending quality time with her son and family. She loves traveling and takes pleasure in organizing and decorating her home, which enriches her experiences and fuels her creativity in her professional endeavors.
Duties
- Create detailed drawings using AutoCAD software from company templates/standards
- Collaborate with civil engineers and landscape architects to understand project requirements and specifications
- Review and modify existing drawings to ensure accuracy and adherence to standards
- Prepare drawings for construction
- Create base files with external references from consultant files
- Perform quality checks on completed drawings to identify errors or inconsistencies
- Meet project deadlines
- Attend project meetings and collaborate with the design team to coordinate workflow, address priorities and forecasted schedules
- Strong work ethic and integrity in all aspects of work performance
Experience
- To be successful in this role, you must be proficient with AutoCAD. In addition, the candidate should have the following qualifications:
- Knowledge of Xrefs / external references, as well as maintaining current files
- Understanding of scaling (architectural vs engineering)
- Knowledge of simple blocks and dynamic blocks
- Experience creating detailed schematics and technical drawings
- Ability to interpret complex technical specifications and translate them into accurate drawings
- Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members.
- Effective in reading architectural, civil and landscape plans.
